Coming Soon!
The Snow Globe Festival of Children’s Theatre returns for 2012!
Last year’s festival was a huge success with performances of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Fairy Catcher’s Companion, Miss Electricity, and The Holiday Half Time Show at the Avenue Theatre.
Here’s some of the things our audiences were saying:
".. just wanted to let you know how much our students and staff enjoyed the two performances of the Lion, Witch & Wardrobe that we attended. Please pass on our appreciation to all of the actors and people behind the scenes that created such a wonderful event. Have a lovely holiday and we look forward to attending future performances." -- Teacher, Scott Robertson School
"What a wonderful way to send our students into holiday break." Assistant Principal, Victoria School for the Arts
“How…how…how did you make it so real?” Grade One Student
"We heard about your production on Shine 105.9 FM.. We decided to check out Miss Electricity (Wed. night 6:30 show). WOW!!! We enjoyed it immensely! Our girls did too! The Holiday singers were great as well! Good luck with the rest of the week - we will tell everyone what a great job you are doing!" – Audience Member/Parent
Promise Productions is so excited to be being the Snow Globe Festival back for a second year with new educational and enthralling plays:
Birdie On the Wrong Bus by Ellen Chorley
Birdie is a girl, not a feathered beast! But ever since she can remember, everyone has called fourth-grader Louise Reiner the nickname “Birdie.” That’s because she’s a perfectionist. Well, it’s actually not because she’s a perfectionist, it’s because every time something goes wrong, Birdie makes a squeaking noise just like a bird! So when Birdie gets a failing grade on her “Why I Love Edmonton” assignment and then accidently hops on the wrong bus home, you can imagine the high notes Birdie is squealing from the back of the bus bound to Fort Road! From Sterling-nominated playwright and Edmonton-native, Ellen Chorley, the world premiere of Birdie on the Wrong Bus is an all-out love letter to the little known parts of Edmonton inspired by the true story of when a “type A personality” took the wrong bus home.

Robin Hood by Kathryn Schultz Miller
Everyone knows the story of Robin Hood and his Merry Men who rob the rich of Nottingham to feed the poor of Sherwood Forest. But, have you ever seen the story told with only three actors?
Kathryn Schultz Miller’s plucky adaptation of Robin Hood has all the famous stories- Little John and Robin’s first meeting on the bridge, Prince John’s archery tournament, King Richard’s disguise and the love story of Maid Marion but told with only three actors, this play is fast paced, imaginative and over-the-top hilarious! You won’t want to blink an eye!

Babes in Toyland Book by Rebecca Ryland, Music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur
The miserly Barnaby is after Mary Mary Quite Contrary’s inheritance, and he’ll stop at nothing- not even attempting to drown her fiancé, Tom Tom the Piper’s Son or stealing Little Bo Peep’s sheep- to get it! With classic songs like “The March of the Toys,” “We Won’t Be Happy Til We Get It” and “I Can’t Do the Sum,” Babes in Toyland is a marvellous adventure into Mother Goose Village, the Forest of No Return and, of course, Toyland!
Public Shows Tuesday, December 18 at 8:30 pm; Wednesday, December 19 at 6:30 pm; Thursday, December 20 at 7:30 pm, Friday, December 21 at 7:00 pm; Saturday, December 22 at 8:00 pm
We’re also very excited to be bringing on a few new changes to the festival including:
WE’VE MOVED! We’ve moved the festival from Avenue Theatre to the Catalyst Theatre (8529 Gateway Boulevard, Edmonton Alberta, T6E 6P3).
WE’LL COME TO YOU! Since we only have seven student matinees in the Catalyst Theatre, we’ve added a second week of touring to our festival. Now, between Monday, December 10- Friday, December 14, schools can book a production of Birdie on the Wrong Bus to perform in their own gymnasium. We think this is a great opportunity to involve more schools in the festival and make our shows as accessible as possible.
